Long distance video screening of the live street - two locations communicating simultaneously
During covid-19, life changed. Not only the special events in life, such as going on vacation, but an essential part of everyday life also changed. And not just in one place, but in the whole world. The message of taking measures of social distancing seems to have profoundly affected relationships, even less close and intimate ones, even in more distant circles, whether at work, in the neighborhood, sport places, and so on. Such connections often create a sense of belonging and community.
The proposal is for a 2.5-meter-high video screen to be placed in the city of Tel Aviv, perhaps near the City Hall or another public place, next to which there is pedestrian traffic, and a video screen of a similar size to be placed in the city of Vienna, also in a public place. The screens will be able to communicate (Wi-Fi) so that passers-by, unfamiliar, on the street, will see each other, can stop, and say hello through the screen. I also suggest that twice a day there will be a street performance activity in close proximity to the screens, so that people will stop and pay extra attention to activities on the other side of the screen.
As part of the live video call, people will be able to see strangers from another city in the world and create remote conversation situations. For now, as long as the journey to another place is still limited, the encounter with the other / similar is even more missed. Faced with the goal of protecting against the re-spread of the virus within and between countries, the desire to meet and reunite remains, and the encounter through a screen was perfected and expanded during this period.
I estimate that there will be moments of random acquaintance, maybe funny moments of mirror games between Tel Aviv-Vienna and maybe even repeating encounters between people.
The means required - screen rental, guard, Wi-Fi, street artists
