COVID-19 and social-distancing measures have left us with a strong need for daily human interactions, people are striving to feel part of a community, especially in big cities, such as Tel-Aviv and Vienna.
The last year has been challenging for all, with the only bright spot during that time being a little walk with a cup of coffee in the open air. The public city spaces became the symbol of freedom and represented a bit of “normality” in those strange and difficult times.
We are, two Israeli designers, May based in Tel-Aviv and Adva in Vienna, decided to collaborate in the mission of creating a public solution that will fit both cities. We designed bollards heads-on, that transform every simple street pillar into a high table bar. Those we implemented in the youthful and dynamic Neubau district, which offers a wide range of shops, restaurants and caffes. Our solution aims to evoke human interactions in urban spaces and give Viennese the chance to enjoy the outdoors comfortably with their beloved ones.
Each head-on is made out of painted galvanized steel and can be simply assembled into a colourful street furniture, either a seat or a table.
